Proudly South African

To be proudly South African means to take pride in being an individual of this country ,to know that there isn’t any other country quite like this and an overall deep feeling of satisfaction to be associated with the African continent as a whole.

Without being sounding like a broken record and mentioning the fact that we are a diverse nation again and again, that is exactly what we are. We live in such a multi-ethnic and multicultural society that we are spoilt with diversity. In fact we have one of the most diversified cultures and languages in the world. Not forgetting to mention our 11 official languages. What other nation has that many languages?

One can never speak about South Africa and not mention uTata Madiba, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela and his fellow comrades, the pioneers for freedom, forgiveness, justice and equality. I am extremely proud and happy to be able to be sitting here and typing this little piece from the struggle and sacrifices of those men and women. To have been afforded the opportunity to go to the schools I have and attained the job I have. This generation is lucky to have had parents that went through those tough times in the past and able to come out on top, where they could provide for us and give us the best.

I remember when I was in Germany for a sports and cultural a few years ago, we found ourselves comparing the smallest of things and it made us miss home, we didn’t really realize how much we would actually miss being away .From the food, to the weather to the lingo…emphasis on food and weather, having the sun still out at 9:00pm was…..interesting.

Its like watching adverts such as the Santam Insurance Advert where people are telling their friends and families they visited south Africa and their unusual experiences. That advert definitely puts into perspective how unique we are.

From the icon Robben Island, to our taxis to our constitution. From people like Nelson Mandela to Trevor Noah. From the extremely negative about our country such as corruption, poverty, water crisis and pandemics to the positives such as hosting the World Cup, the Big 5, abundant natural beauty and beaches as well as booming tourism and fashion industry. We are truly a one of a kind nation.
